Inspiration Point in Marion Sansom Park
401 West 13th Street | Fort Worth, Texas | 76102 | 817-392-8088
Known in the office as “stonehenge”, this formerly popular picnic shelter and scenic overlook had the roof structure burned twice. Erosion from trail bikes and 4 wheelers had decimated the minimal foundations. Walls were overturning and the outer masonry was sliding down the hill. It remained a ruin for 25 years. Working with a strict budget, we designed the restoration and re-construction of this 1927 public works facility faithful to the original design as well as enduring, non-combustible, and for minimal maintenance.
Restoration is designed for long life. Sharp stone debris barely buried protect outside walls. Deep foundations stabilize the structure and reinforced concrete flatwork ties walls together at top. Reclaimed stone veneer finishes new concrete walls. All roof framing and construction is non-combustible. The stamped metal roof and volutes at gable ends recall original shingles with sheet metal ridge. We have prepared and have nominated Inspiration Point for National Register designation as part of our local cultural heritage.
