This two level 1877 landmark county jail building has been adapted for reuse as a contemporary art museum. Our 1983 design on a limited budget included 8,000 square feet expansion to the existing building while keeping the historic building as the prominent approach and focus for the project. A courtyard sculpture garden, landscaped parking and other site work completed the design. In 1996, our second expansion added an additional 6,750 square feet including new galleries, office and preparation remodel, and archival storage.

This expansion is wholly compatible with the original design. In 2009 we followed with a second expansion adding a new commercial kitchen for openings and special events, chair storage and remodel of one of the gallery interiors. The remodel has also included expansion of the Library and reconfiguring the original kitchen into an office for the educational staff and a digital programming and recording studio. The studio will be used for preparation of educational films for rural public schools not able to afford staffing for art education.
